Professional background
Dr Gauri Godbole graduated from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College, Pune, India in 1995 and specialised in internal medicine in Mumbai, obtaining an MD in 2000 and MRCP in London in 2005. She has experience in practice of tropical diseases and HIV from India and the UK. She undertook further specialist training in microbiology and parasitology in London and obtained the FRCPath in 2013.She was appointed as consultant microbiologist in 2014 and is the clinical lead for Gastrointestinal Pathogens Unit, Colindale, Public Health England.
She is a consultant parasitologist at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and works closely with the PHE National Parasitology Reference Laboratory.
She has also been an honorary senior lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine since 2015.
