The Fitzrovia Private Maternity Suite at University College Hospital has now reopened following a major refurbishment and modernisation programme to create a warm and welcoming environment for private maternity patients. The ward also includes two brand new delivery rooms, meaning private vaginal births can now be offered as well as the caesarean sections which have previously been provided.

All work has been completed to the highest possible standards of infection control and safety and the ward has been completely remodelled with the needs of patients and staff at the centre of the design.

There are now five en suite bedrooms which have been fully refurbished, with a new TV system and fridge in each room. All bathrooms have been fully refurbished to a hotel standard.

There is also a new dedicated reception area to welcome private patients and their visitors to the hospital, with a refreshments bay in the new private waiting area.

As well as upgrading all the facilities, the Fitzrovia Suite now has a team of dedicated private midwives to care for patients throughout their stay. New parents will also be supported throughout their birth by their choice of one of UCLH Private Healthcare’s world-class consultants.

All profits from private maternity services are reinvested back into NHS maternity services, which then benefits all patients in the hospital.

“The new environment will make a real difference to everyone that uses the ward, from patients, to visitors to staff”, said Lead Private Midwife, Debbie Bridgewater. “Our ability to offer a private vaginal delivery service means that the Fitzrovia Suite will be able to provide a greater choice of birth options to new parents, which is so important. It is also wonderful that we now have our dedicated team of midwives who will really be able to get to know our patients during their stay.

“The beautiful décor is really just the cherry on the cake in what we hope will be a wonderful birth experience for all our patients.”

“I am delighted that we are able to provide such wonderful facilities, which will complement the world-class treatment we are already offering to our patients”, said Director of Private Healthcare, Kerensa Heffron, “This new environment reflects back the quality of the expertise and care we provide every day.”
