Before Donanemab can be offered as a treatment option, patients will need to be assessed to check whether the drug is appropriate for their use.

The prices shown below outline the costs for this assessment stage, followed by the packages of care during treatment, including in-hospital infusions and subsequent stay-at-home infusions.

Patients may not need each assessment stage, for example if they have already had some tests and investigations done elsewhere.  Tests will only be repeated if clinically necessary.

If Donanemab is not considered to be a suitable treatment option at any stage in the assessment process, patients will proceed to the next assessment stage.

Assessment packages

Packages Price Description
Pre-assessment triage £150

Patients who have not previously seen one of the dementia specialist consultants here will need to have a pre-assessment triage with a nurse specialist.

Any required blood tests will be charged on top of this fee.

First consultation £480

After the initial pre-assessment triage, patients will be booked for a consultation with one of our dementia specialist consultants to discuss the treatment and what it means in more detail.

Eligibility assessment £6,250

Patients who are still considered potentially eligible for Donanemab treatment after their consultation will need to undertake a set of further tests to confirm eligibility. This will include an ApoE blood test, an MRI brain scan, and either a lumbar puncture or Amyloid PET scan. This may require a further consultation with the lead consultant (additional fee of £280), and in some people a neuropsychology assessment (additional fee of circa £600, depending on consultant).

Please note if patients have previously had some of these tests and investigations at UCLH or elsewhere and they don’t need repeating the fees will be removed from the above package and won’t be charged.

Multidisciplinary team (MDT) eligibility meeting £960

Prior to the start of treatment, a team of consultants will undertake a final review of the patient’s case to assess whether the patient is suitable for treatment.

First infusion - £3,300

Second infusion - £4,200

Third infusion - £5,100

All other infusions - £6000

Patients will receive four-weekly infusions in hospital for the first six months of treatment. During the first four infusions the dosage of Donanemab is slowly increased. The increased dosage is reflected in the increased price per infusion.

Each infusion package price includes a telephone pre-assessment with a nurse specialist, the hospital admission, an infusion of Donanemab, and a follow-up telephone call with a nurse specialist.

MRI scans are required before the 2nd, 4th, and 7th infusion and are separately chargeable.

Patients are reviewed by their consultant every two months during this stage of treatment. There is an additional charge of £280 per review.

At-home infusion £4,150 per infusion

After six months of treatment in hospital, the treatment will continue every 4 weeks in the patient’s own home. This is delivered by a healthcare-at-home provider in partnership with UCLH. This package will include the infusion of the drug but exclude any consultations.

The combined cost of 18 months of infusions of Donanemab including hospital and homecare is £87,550.

Our expert team of clinical nurse specialists (CNS) will support the patient throughout their treatment journey. This is included in the pricing packages above.
