The Bloomsbury Private Ward at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery has now reopened following a major refurbishment and modernisation programme to create a warm and welcoming environment specifically designed for patients with neurological issues.
All work has been completed in accordance with the latest healthcare buildings advice and guidance, and finished to the highest possible standards of safety and comfort.
The ward (previously known at The Nuffield Ward) has been completely remodelled with the needs of patients and staff at the centre of the design.
All 17 en suite bedrooms have been fully refurbished, with a new enhanced TV system, fridge and safe in the rooms, and bathrooms have been fully refurbished to the highest standards, including the provision of step-free access to showers in every bathroom to make them readily accessible for all patients.
There is the capacity to interconnect two rooms to create a larger suite if required and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom has been specifically created to accommodate bariatric patients.
One bedroom has been set up to be able to undertake dedicated private telemetry studies (where patients being investigated for neurological conditions can be videoed during neurological events while brain activity is simultaneously recorded), and a private autonomics diagnostic service will offered from Bloomsbury Ward from the Autumn.
“The new environment will make a real difference to everyone that uses the ward, from patients, to visitors to staff”, said Matron for Neurosurgery, Linda Flynn. “The modifications we have made to specifically cater for patients with neurological issues means that their experience of staying in hospital is greatly improved. When the beautiful décor is also added in to the mix, then we have really succeeded in creating a home-from-home for our patients while they are in our care.”
“I am delighted that we are able to provide such wonderful facilities, which we can be as proud of as the world-class treatment we are already offering to our patients”, said Director of Private Healthcare, Kerensa Heffron, “This new environment reflects back the quality of the expertise and care we provide every day.”
