UCLH chief executive David Probert has been granted honorary professor status at UCL’s new Global Business School for Health (GBSH). The role will see him contribute to the teaching on the UCL MBA Health programme, due to start in September 2022.
David, who was appointed chief executive at UCLH in August 2021, has a long and successful career within healthcare and an excellent relationship with UCL. In his previous UCLH role as director of strategy he led the planning and development of two new hospital buildings – the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals and the Grafton Way Building.
As chief executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust he laid the foundations for Oriel, a pioneering new eye-care research, education and treatment centre in partnership with UCL.
David said: “I am particularly delighted to be honoured in this way as I am a great believer in healthcare development. An MBA is fantastic in terms of the breadth of learning it gives you; it allows you to span the full extent of the discipline but also maintain your focus on the area you know is critical. Core clear management skills are vital for healthcare leaders and I very much look forward to contributing to this programme.”
Professor Nora Colton, director of UCL Global Business School for Health, said: “David’s background of delivering a number of productive and commercially successful relationships as well as successful growth of all commercial service income across the hospitals he has worked with will add great value to the learning of GBSH MBA and MSc students.
“He brings strong experience of strategic development, leadership and multi-million pound project management across large trusts.
“With experience of delivering target based national and international healthcare projects across NHS Trusts and holding senior positions in leading high-performing healthcare teams, David will add tremendous value to the education, research and student community for GBSH.”
