UCLH Private Healthcare is expanding its services with the launch of a new diagnostic endoscopy and gastroenterology consultation service.

Private consultations and diagnostic endoscopic procedures—including gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy—will be available to help with the diagnosis of a range of upper and lower gastrointestinal conditions including reflux, difficulty swallowing, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.

UCLH’s endoscopy unit at University College Hospital is one of the largest and most advanced in the UK, conducting over 17,000 procedures annually. Equipped with eight state-of-the-art endoscopy rooms and a 16-bay recovery area, the unit provides cutting-edge facilities for both diagnostic and therapeutic care. Private patients will be seen alongside those in the established NHS service.

The team is renowned for its expertise in high-quality diagnostic screening, surveillance endoscopy, and therapeutic endoscopy. UCLH’s service is one of the largest upper gastrointestinal (GI) therapeutic endoscopy centres in the UK, offering patients access to the latest, most advanced procedures available.

As part of a major teaching hospital, the gastroenterology unit is supported by an ongoing academic and research programme, with leadership from some of the UK’s foremost experts in the field. Being located within a multi-specialty hospital also ensures that patients benefit from easy access to a wide range of treatments and support services, including radiology and anaesthetics. Furthermore, the endoscopy department is JAG-accredited, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

UCLH’s private service offers quick assessments, flexible appointment scheduling, and a competitive pricing structure, making expert care more accessible than ever.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this new service to our private patients,” said Dylan Smiley, General Manager for Gastroenterology. “It’s a great opportunity to extend the exceptional expertise of UCLH to a broader group of patients for diagnostics at this initial stage, and we are hoping to offer therapeutic gastroenterology services in the near future.”

“Gastroenterology is just one of several new private services we are looking to launch at UCLH,” said Director of Private Healthcare, Kerensa Heffron, “This is a really exciting time for us, and we hope to share news of even more new services soon.”
